Erwin Kessler is an art historian, philosopher, curator and general director of the Museum of Recent Art in Bucharest – MARe. After graduating in Philosophy at the University of Bucharest, he continued his studies in Art History and Theory at the Academy of Art in Bucharest. He continued with doctoral and post-doctoral studies in Paris and Maastricht. He has an important publishing activity, as the editor of the magazines ARC, The Golden Bough and Plural, published by the Romanian Cultural Institute, as well as art critic for various publications such as Arta, 22, Dilema, Artelier, Secolul XX, România liberă. He is the organizer of several contemporary art exhibitions, book author and editor of artist catalogues published by the National Museum of Art. The MARE Foundation, which he created in 2015, has managed to open the only private art museum in Romania in the last 100 years. The museum manages to present three temporary exhibitions annually with Romanian art and three with internationally renowned foreign artists.
